Recorded by Geoff Downes and John Payne exclusively, Rare is a collection of mostly instrumental pieces composed and recorded for a nature documentary and a scrapped video game project. As such, this is unlike any other Asia release, as it's classical and even techno compositions lean far more towards the progressive realm than even such Asia masterpieces as Arena and Silent Nation. A must-have cd, and a vitally important entry in the Asia catalog, showing the range of talent that the two men possess outside of the pop-prog-rock of the main Asia recordings to be as vast as any musicians in the modern classical field. Brilliant stuff, indeed.
